Historic Heritage Place

Exciting progress is unfolding in Savannah’s Cuyler-Brownsville neighborhood and renovations are on schedule for the 76 apartment homes at Heritage Place! This revitalization is more than just a construction endeavor — it’s a celebration of history, community, and the promise of a brighter future.

The Cuyler-Brownsville neighborhood holds a special place in Savannah’s story. Established after the Civil War, this area was originally settled by freed slaves who laid the foundations for a community built on resilience and a drive for self-sufficiency.

Reviving History with a Vision for the Future

As renovations on each of the four historic buildings are completed, residents will begin moving in to the newly energy-efficient homes, marking this development as a true symbol of progress in a neighborhood with deep historical roots.

Combining modern conveniences with the historical soul of Cuyler-Brownsville reflects a broader vision for revitalizing the neighborhood while maintaining the cultural integrity that has always defined this area.

In February, Mercy Housing’s national and MHSE board gathered in Savannah for a tour of the most recently completed building. The Honorable Van R. Johnson, Mayor of Savannah, addressed the boards and shared his thoughts on the importance of community-driven developments like Heritage Place.
