Expanding pathways to economic mobility

Financial education is a core part of Mercy Housing Mountain Plains’ resident services model, giving residents opportunities to build financial independence and move closer to their goals. Thanks to a generous grant from Wells Fargo, we are excited to expand our Economic Mobility programming, bringing new resources to residents across Colorado and Arizona.

“Economic mobility programming is about helping residents move from stability to opportunity,” said Shelly Marquez. “By offering financial coaching, credit-building tools, and pathways to long-term financial independence, we are equipping residents with the resources they need to reach their goals and pursue the dreams they have for themselves and their families.”

These opportunities are expanding through a three-pronged approach designed to strengthen financial stability and support long-term success.

At The Rose on Colfax, Grace Apartments, and Holly Park, residents now have access to onsite financial coaching, eviction prevention resources, and rental assistance. Through a partnership with the Financial Empowerment Center, residents can participate in one-on-one coaching, workshops, and goal-setting support to strengthen financial well-being.

Across the region, residents can also build credit through Esusu’s positive rent reporting program, which allows households that pay rent on time to establish credit history.

The Family Self-Sufficiency Program, currently operating at three Colorado communities, will expand to four Nebraska properties in 2026, reaching an anticipated 135 individuals and supporting greater financial independence.
