Oct 14Making History
The 14-month rehab of the historic Major Jenkins Apartments was completed in December 2021, preserving 156 apartments of permanent supportive housing in Chicago’s Uptown community.
To celebrate the reopening, guests gathered on August 17 to hear inspiring words from distinguished guests and enjoy a delicious lunch and great music! A special thanks to our program speakers and all who made this memorable event a great success.
We completed upgrades throughout the building and in the community and activity spaces, including installing air conditioning and Wi-Fi. Apartments were outfitted with new furniture and appliances.
In July, Novogradac honored the Major Jenkins Apartments preservation with its 2022 Historic Tax Credit Residential Development that Best Exemplifies Major Community Impact Award.
In September, Affordable Housing Finance announced that the building also won the AHF Readers’ Choice Award for its Preservation category.
