May 04Food Pantry Power!
Over the past several years, the demand for food services has increased dramatically as so many people face uncertainty about where their next meal will come from. To help combat this need, Mercy Housing provides free, onsite food pantries to offer seniors, families, and people with special needs basic living essentials. This vital resource helps supply everything from canned foods and fresh eggs to shampoo and cleaning supplies – giving many residents peace of mind knowing they won’t go without each month.
The increased demand for food has also created an increased demand for volunteers like Nancy!
Nancy has been a long-time community partner and volunteer at Francis Heights in Denver. The 383-apartment senior community is the largest senior property in the Mountain Plains region. Although their food pantry is small, it is a mighty force! The tiny footprint of their pantry bustles each month while serving roughly 75 residents in need.
Recently, Nancy and her colleague Alex answered the call for help by volunteering their time to help fill food bags in the pantry. The two were a welcomed sight by both residents and staff alike and when the bags were full, they delivered the essential food items directly to each resident.
“I enjoy giving back to an organization that provides a home to low-income seniors, as well as families. It’s a pleasure to support the residents with activities that can help put a smile on their faces. For me, giving back to the community is “food for my soul” and I look forward to continuing this partnership for years to come,” said Nancy.
We are so grateful for Nancy and Alex and their help to support Mercy Housing residents with these vital resources.
