Making Your Voice Heard

Mercy Housing set a goal to register “2,020 in 2020” — a campaign aimed to register 2,020 Mercy Housing residents across the country to vote. With the November elections right around the corner, we’ve already surpassed our goal!

Making Your Voice HeardVoting is essential to our democracy, and voter registration is the first step. As with so many aspects of 2020, COVID-19 has created more barriers for people to participate in this important process. Mercy Housing is committed to helping alleviate these challenges and provide a nonpartisan stance throughout the election and all voter registration efforts.

Resident Services Coordinators (RSCs) in the Midwest have been busy throughout the campaign. They have posted educational flyers, engaged residents through text messaging and worked with them one-on-one to ensure voter registration information is up to date.

Crestview Village in La Vista, NE, recently partnered with Heartland Workers Center to help residents register to vote, provide educational information, and answer voting questions.

Heartland Workers Center is a nonprofit organization focused on building stronger communities through leadership development and civic engagement. Corbin, Organizer at Heartland Workers Center, brought his certified crew to help with Mercy Housing’s “2,020 in 2020” initiative. Together, they went door-to-door to all 154 apartment homes to check in with residents.

Sara, RSC at Crestview Village, enjoys being able to help in this important democratic process.

“Heartland Workers Center has been an amazing resource for Mercy Housing! Corbin and I connected with over 58 residents and of those, eight individuals registered to vote in the upcoming elections. Overall, everyone appreciated the non-partisan information and how easy it was to register,” said Sara.

Many residents have appreciated the additional resources and extra effort made to ensure an easy, seamless process for them.

Now, it’s time to make your voice heard and get out the VOTE!
