DENVER, CO — On Tuesday, August 13, Commerce City’s first affordable housing community will reopen with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, speakers, and a property tour following a two-year renovation. The property is owned and operated by Mercy Housing Mountain Plains (MHMP), a Denver-based national affordable housing nonprofit. MHMP partnered with Bellwether Enterprise, US Bank, and the Strong Families Fund (SFF) with the National Affordable Housing Trust (NAHT) as the investor in the SFF for these property updates.

Speakers

  • Strong Families Fund – Jane Bilger, Senior Program Manager, Corporation for Supportive Housing
  • Bellwether Enterprise – J. Ross Halloran, Jr., Senior Vice President
  • National Affordable Housing Trust – Lori Little, President & CEO

“Mercy Housing is grateful for the investments made by our partners in our Holly Park community. Their support makes it possible to sustain our work by refurbishing and extending the life of the existing homes for over 400 residents that call Holly Park home.” Jane Graf, Mercy Housing, President & CEO.

Holly Park Apartments is located at 5524 E 60th Ave. Commerce City, CO (Adams County). It offers 168 one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom homes for low-income families. The apartments serve 429 residents, including 230 children. The rehabilitation included new floors, kitchens, bathroom cabinets, countertops, mechanical systems, electrical, windows, heating system, exteriors, site work, and life safety and accessibility upgrades. The apartments were originally built in 1975 and acquired by MHMP in 1998.

Renovations will support residents’ ability to live in a stable, healthy environment. Since its purchase in 1998, Holly Park Apartments has helped serve Commerce City’s families that are earning extremely low incomes, fostering opportunities for education and career advancement. NAHT assisted Mercy Housing with full development services and collaborated closely with the design team to make the rehabilitation possible.

“We are grateful to have the support to be able to renovate and extend the life of the existing homes for the residents at Holly Park. NAHT was a great partner and resource, providing creative financing solutions like the Strong Families Fund,” said Melissa Clayton, SVP Portfolio Management Mercy Housing, Inc.

SFF’s goal is to stimulate and support innovative strategies to design, deliver, and measure the impact of resident service coordination for families—essential resources for economic advancement to end cyclical poverty. They use a unique Pay for Success model with Tax Credit syndication. This commitment results in measurable results for Commerce City’s families in need.
