About Heritage Place
Heritage Place is located in the historic Cuyler-Brownsville neighborhood which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. With help from the City of Savannah’s Urban Redevelopment Plan, Mercy Housing and its development partner, NorSouth Construction, redeveloped the historic Charity Hospital and the historic Florence Street School as affordable housing for families. Charity Hospital, built in 1931, was the first hospital in Savannah to train African American nurses and doctors. The building now contains 25 units of affordable housing. Florence Street School, built in 1929, was one of the early public schools in Savannah and now contains 27 units of affordable housing.
