Meet Legacy Circle Members
Many people like you have made planned gifts to further Mercy Housing’s critical work– now and in the future. We invite you to listen to their compelling stories below.
Simple Ways to Leave a Lasting Legacy
Mercy Housing welcomes charitable gifts of all sizes. Legacy giving to Mercy Housing can be as simple as a predetermined amount, a percentage of a single asset, or as a named beneficiary. You do not have to have a large estate to make a meaningful planned gift. Naming Mercy Housing in your plans can ensure your gift has maximum impact.
There are many ways to make a planned gift that will allow you to make a significant contribution toward Mercy Housing’s mission and still provide for your own financial security during your lifetime:
- A gift in your will or trust
- Naming Mercy Housing as a beneficiary of an insurance policy or individual retirement account
- Gifts that pay you income
If you have already provided for Mercy Housing in your estate plans, please allow us the opportunity to thank you by informing us of your commitment.

Beneficiary Designations
Naming Mercy Housing as a beneficiary to receive assets from your retirement plans (i.e. IRA, pension, 401(k)) or life insurance policies is an easy way to give and support families in need and give new hope to the homeless after your lifetime.
Simply contact your bank, insurance company or retirement account holder and request a beneficiary designation form. And remember, you aren’t locked into the choices you make today; you can adjust beneficiary designations at any time.
IRA Charitable Rollover
You may be able to make a distribution from your traditional or Roth Individual Retirement Account (IRA) to Mercy Housing and take advantage of tax savings. It is an easy and efficient way to support the causes that matter to you most.
Here’s how the IRA Charitable Rollover works:
- You must be 70½ or older at the time of distribution.
- Your gift is not included in your income for income tax purposes.
- If you are 73 or older at the time of distribution, your gift will count toward your required minimum distribution.
- Even if you do not itemize your deductions, you benefit by removing your distribution from your taxable income.
- Your IRA administrator must make the distribution directly to the charity, or you may write a check payable to the charity from your IRA checkbook.
*Please consult your financial advisor to discuss your specific situation.
A Gift in Your Will or Trust
A gift written into your will or living trust is the most common way to make a legacy gift. Your assets stay in your control throughout your life, retaining your current income, and you may modify your gift at any time.
Gifts that Pay You Income
One way to support Mercy Housing is available through life-income gifts that enable you to make a significant gift while increasing your cash flow now. Examples of these type of gifts include Charitable Gift Annuities and Charitable Remainder Trusts.
