Mercy Housing Northwest, one of the region’s largest not-for-profit affordable housing providers, hosted a celebration event at noon on Thursday to mark the start of construction of Mercy Othello Plaza. Bill Rumpf, Regional President, was the Master of Ceremony. Seattle Mayor Ed Murray, King County Executive Dow Constantine, Sound Transit CEO Peter Rogoff and community leaders joined Mercy Housing staff in the celebration.

The holidays were a lot brighter for Mercy Housing residents in Arizona, Colorado, and Nebraska thanks to many generous donors. Mercy Housing Mountain Plains residents received toys, household items, winter wear, and holiday treats. Hundreds of items were donated across the region. In Arizona, the Gilbert Chamber of Commerce gave gifts to 72 senior residents.

Mercy Housing, a national nonprofit affordable housing developer and service provider, has embarked on a mission to create affordable senior housing despite the lack of capital funding for such projects. To accomplish their mission, they have turned to a novel private capital finance structure. By using this uncommon funding approach, as part of their Senior Health and Housing Initiative, they hope to acquire existing buildings and convert them into affordable, service-enriched housing in a fraction of the time it typically takes to complete such projects.
