Collaboration is the foundation on which Mercy Housing Mountain Plains communities are built. Just in time for the 2023 holidays, we welcomed families at two brand-new properties in Colorado: Northfield Commons and The Rose on Colfax. We also broke ground on Glendale Senior, which will soon be home to 148 seniors.

Our development pipeline has never been stronger and over the next few years, we plan on building and preserving more than 900 apartment homes across our region. This would not be possible without the support of so many incredible partners who help us carry out our mission of providing safe affordable, service-enriched housing.

Northfield Commons

Just 63 miles north of Denver, Northfield Commons is a beautiful new affordable housing community located in Landmark Homes’ new neighborhood development. This community will feature one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartment homes for families with low incomes. With vibrant downtown Fort Collins one mile away, Northfield Commons provides easy access to bus lines, parks, the regional trail network, shopping, and restaurants.

901 Navajo

A new affordable housing community for low-income and unhoused Native American and Alaskan Native residents is coming to Denver’s La Alma-Lincoln Park neighborhood. In partnership with the Native American Housing Circle (NAHC) and Denver Indian Health and Family Services (DIHFS), Mercy Housing Mountain Plains will break ground on 901 Navajo in early 2025. Open to all applicants earning 30–60% of the area medium income, 901 Navajo will provide 187 affordable apartment homes along with a 19,000 sq. ft., federally qualified healthcare center. Approximately half of the apartment homes will give preference to unhoused families.

“The new Navajo Street development is part of Mercy Housing’s unique focus on combating racial inequity and providing inclusive health and housing services that improve the physical, behavioral, and emotional health of individuals transitioning from homelessness,” said Shelly Marquez, president of Mercy Housing Mountain Plains.

“This new community leans into Mercy Housing’s commitment to not just housing, but also health. Co-locating health and housing offers vulnerable families and individuals the health and stability that helps them to heal and prosper.”

The preliminary designs for the new residential community also include a fitness center, community cafes that have the feel of neighborhood coffee shops, and a community kitchen providing a space for cooking classes and community events. Residents will also have access to outdoor public and semi-private spaces where they can socialize, garden, or find solitude. The DIHFS clinic will provide high-quality, convenient primary medical, behavioral, and dental care for residents and the larger community as well as host wellness, nutrition, and fitness activities.

The 901 Navajo development is scheduled to start construction in early 2025 with a tentative completion date of late 2027.

Glendale Senior

In Arizona, we officially broke ground on Glendale Senior Apartments. Once complete, Glendale Senior will include 148 affordable apartment homes for low-income seniors with at least 17 of them set aside for seniors who have lived unhoused. This new community will also feature a fitness room, several outdoor spaces, including a beautifully landscaped courtyard, recreation areas, a community garden, and a dog run for the residents’ furry friends.

Expected to open in mid-2025, this senior community is located within the Glendale Centerline Overlay District-Midtown area along a high-transit corridor.

The Rose on Colfax

We began this year by celebrating the grand opening of The Rose on Colfax, our first new affordable housing community in 13 years! This milestone event caught the attention of many, and we couldn’t be more proud or thankful. It truly takes a village, and it is because of the many invaluable partners involved that this community could be completed. A special thank you to Governor Jared Polis and Denver Mayor Michael Johnston for joining us on such a special day.

The Rose provides 82 affordable apartments for families and The Mile High Early Learning Center, operated by Mile High Early Learning (MHEL), is located on the ground floor. MHEL has been serving the community for over 50 years with a focus on delivering high-quality childcare for all. In addition, residents have access to free, onsite services provided by Mercy Housing designed to help them meet their goals.
