Historic Heritage Place

Exciting progress is unfolding in Savannah’s Cuyler-Brownsville neighborhood as renovations for Heritage Place are right on schedule! This revitalization is more than just a construction endeavor — it’s a celebration of history, community, and the promise of a brighter future.

The Cuyler-Brownsville neighborhood holds a special place in Savannah’s story. Established after the Civil War, this area was originally settled by freed slaves who laid the foundations for a community built on resilience and a drive for self-sufficiency.

Reviving History with a Vision for the Future

Heritage Place will offer 76 newly constructed, energy-efficient apartment homes, combining the old with the new in an innovative mixed-use development. As renovations on each of the four historic buildings are completed, residents will begin moving in, marking this development as a true symbol of progress in a neighborhood with deep historical roots. Alongside the apartment homes, a grocery store and other retail businesses will ensure that residents have easy access to essential services and fostering economic growth within the community.

Combining modern conveniences with the historical soul of Cuyler-Brownsville reflects a broader vision for revitalizing the neighborhood while maintaining the cultural integrity that has always defined this area.

In February, Mercy Housing’s national board and the MHSE board, gathered in Savannah for a tour of the most recently completed building. The Honorable Van R. Johnson, Mayor of Savannah, addressed the boards, sharing his thoughts on the importance of community-driven developments like Heritage Place.
