Transformational 30,000 sq. ft. Community Center includes a new Wu Yee Children’s Services Early Learning Center and a new clubhouse for the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco.

Mercy Housing California (MHC), Related California, Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco, and Wu Yee Children’s Services, in collaboration with community leaders, capital campaign donors, Sunnydale residents, and neighbors, celebrated the grand opening and dedication of The Hub. Made possible through private and public partnerships, this modern community center includes a new Wu Yee Children’s Services Early Learning Center and a Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco Sunnydale Clubhouse.

Additionally, The Hub brings a new recording studio, shared living room and community kitchen, reading nook, multi-purpose rooms for events and classes, and study and meeting spaces. Designed to foster unity, The Hub is at the heart of the community and connects the Sunnydale and Visitacion Valley neighborhoods, providing resources, programs, and support.

A Community Builds a Community

Today, we celebrate the fulfillment of a promise to our residents.”

The Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco Comes To Sunnydale 

With programs focused on academic success, healthy lifestyles, job readiness, and community engagement, the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco is expected to quadruple the number of youths served in Sunnydale, reaching 135 youth per day, ages six to 18. Participating youth will also have access to a residential summer camp in Mendocino County.

“At Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco, we are committed to providing safe, supportive environments where all youth can learn, grow, and reach their full potential. We are proud to have played a major role in building this inspiring space and to be serving as a key partner in providing wraparound services to the Sunnydale community,” Rob Connolly, President of the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco, added.

The Wu Yee Early Learning Center Helps Youth Thrive 

The new Wu Yee Early Learning Center cares for 70 young children, ranging from infants to preschoolers. It also includes a parent advisory council and school readiness program and will offer an apprenticeship program to launch careers in early education.

The $46 million Hub was built with mass timber, an innovative, sustainable all-wood construction technique, and bridges the Sunnydale and Visitacion Valley communities. The Wells Fargo Foundation also presented Mercy Housing California with a $1M gift for ongoing resident services programming in these communities.

“We thank Mercy Housing for their tremendous leadership in bringing this invaluable community center to the Bay Area,” said Darlene Goins, President of the Wells Fargo Foundation. “In addition, the Wells Fargo Foundation is excited to provide a $1 million grant to Mercy Housing California to seed an innovative endowment fund to support existing and future wraparound services for residents—including youth enrichment, daycare, career planning, and programming to promote financial health—for decades to come.”
