Developing News in the Southeast

We are excited to be moving forward with developing three communities in the Southeast: Henderson Place, Belvedere, and Clairmont Family.

Preserving Affordable Housing in Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward

In partnership with the Historic District Development Corporation (HDDC), the only nonprofit dedicated to preserving affordable housing in Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward neighborhood, Mercy Housing Southeast is redeveloping Henderson Place, a family community located in the Old Fourth Ward, which has ties to the Civil Rights era and has experienced disinvestment and neglect. Once complete, this rebuild will include 76 apartment homes for households earning 50% – 60% Area Medium Income (AMI) and anchored by a 4,000 sq. ft. retail grocery and community market. Conveniently located near transit, quality schools, and amenities, Henderson Place will promote the Sweet Auburn Green and Equitable District (SAGE) initiative to combat issues of poverty, equity, and wellness. The community is named after Ms. Valena Henderson, a long-time Old Fourth Ward resident and active civil rights activist alongside Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Ms. Coretta Scott King.

Clairmont Family Coming to Chamblee

Also in Georgia, Clairmont Family represents the first phase of a multi-generational community located in Chamblee. The project includes approximately 83,000 square feet of new construction, comprising 67 one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartment homes for families earning 30%-80% AMI. Planned amenities include a community room, outdoor walking path, playground, and a covered picnic pavilion. A public library, MARTA transit, retail, and high-quality schools are nearby.

88 New Apartment Homes for Seniors at Belvedere in Mauldin

Meanwhile, in Mauldin, South Carolina, Belvedere Senior is also currently in development. Once complete, this community located just outside of the Greenville metro area, will include 88 apartment homes for seniors. In 2022, Belvedere Senior was awarded Low-Income Housing Tax Credits, a competitive financing source that is instrumental to create housing for people with low incomes. The community was also awarded 9% vouchers in July 2023 for the permanent supportive apartments as part of this community.
