Oct 02A Summer Full of Adventures
Summer was in full swing for 48 youth living at Savannah Gardens and Thrive Sweet Auburn.
Kids at Thrive Sweet Auburn enjoyed their first Mercy Housing Southeast summer camp with field trips to the Georgia Aquarium and Urban Air Trampoline and Adventure Park, where they focused on STEM concepts. Families at Thrive Sweet Auburn are new to Mercy Housing and the Resident Services programs included the summer food program Happy Helpings. It was the perfect opportunity for residents of all ages to become more familiar with their new community and meet their neighbors.
Kids Connect Using Their Imaginations
Youth residents took their painting skills to a new level with the help of Painting with a Twist at Savannah Gardens. This guided art activity encouraged the kids to connect with one another while tapping into their creative minds. Each participant left with their very own masterpiece.
The kids also visited the Oatland Island Wildlife Center where they had a memorable experience connecting with the outdoors while also seeing the wildlife up close. Savannah Gardens youth also participated in various team-building recreation and exercise programs in the community. Other summer activities included bowling, dance camp, STEM, and literacy enhancement activities. They even took part in a field trip to the UGA Aquarium.
Thank you to the Georgia Department of Education BOOST grant, the City of Savannah, and the United Way of Greater Atlanta for supporting our campers through your generous donations.
