Aug 29The Historic Carlton Apartments Reopens After Yearlong Rehabilitation
Residents of Mercy Housing Lakefront’s Carlton Apartments came together with staff and supporters on a sunny June afternoon to celebrate the reopening of the historic apartment building.
Carlton Apartments was originally built in 1925 as the Carlton Terrace Hotel featuring distinctive Collegiate Gothic architecture. Mercy Housing Lakefront acquired and first renovated the Carlton Terrace Hotel in 1993 and converted the building into Permanent Supportive Housing.
In August 2022, Mercy Housing Lakefront completed a year-long rehabilitation of Carlton Apartments, preserving 68 permanent supportive homes. This rehabilitation extended the longevity of the building and improved the quality of life for individuals with extremely low incomes, including many who have experienced chronic homelessness and have disabilities.
Thank you to our many distinguished event speakers, including State Senator Michael Simmons, 7th District, who shared words of gratitude from the podium:
“I want to say thank you to Mercy Housing for always pushing and fighting for affordable housing. I don’t know where our community would be without your leadership.”
We also want to thank our supporters and the key partners who helped make the rehabilitation possible:
