National Hispanic Heritage Month

National Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated annually from September 15 to October 15 and honors the Hispanic and Latino American cultures and contributions rooted in Latin American countries. It celebrates the many ways these communities have both influenced and contributed to our society. The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September 18, respectively. Visit any Mercy Housing office and/or community, and you will see very diverse communities. Mercy Housing President & CEO Ismael Guerrero’s family immigrated from Mexico, and their journey left a lasting impression on him, as he recently shared.

The stories of the Hispanic community make everyone richer in knowledge, more respectful with a greater perspective, more just by ensuring fair and equitable access, opportunity, and advancement for all, and more compassionate with mercy.  We celebrate Mercy Housing employees and residents. Let’s all uplift and celebrate the vibrant Hispanic/Latino/Latinx community and their contributions to our workplace and beyond!
