Wisconsin residents are getting healthy food thanks to partner Hunger Task Force.
In 2019, Mercy Housing Lakefront partnered with Hunger Task Force Milwaukee to provide monthly food donations for residents at several Wisconsin properties through The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP). The Johnston Center, Jefferson Court Apartments, and Saxony Manor all benefit from this program.
The Johnston Center is a Permanent Supportive Housing community in Milwaukee which serves 91 extremely low-income residents. Each month, about 60 residents receive goods such as rice, beans, and canned foods thanks to the Hunger Task Force. Hunger Task Force also partners with Pick ‘N Save in Milwaukee to provide a Mobile Market at the Johnston Center. Through the Mobile Market, residents can buy fresh produce, dairy, and meat at discounted prices right outside their front door.
Hunger Task Force also assists residents at Jefferson Court Apartments. This affordable housing community, which serves over 220 seniors with low income in Milwaukee, receives non-perishable goods and Senior Stock Boxes monthly.
In Kenosha, Hunger Task Force partners with Piggly Wiggly to offer another monthly Mobile Market at Mercy Housing Lakefront’s Saxony Manor, which provides affordable homes for 224 seniors with low incomes.
“This donation would not be possible without the dedication of the case management staff and especially our Tenant Leaders to assist with the distribution,” notes Clarissa Cameron, Regional Director of Resident Services. Mercy Housing Lakefront is grateful to all who continue to assist these residents in accessing food during this difficult time. Together with our partners, we’re taking every precaution to keep residents and staff safe during the handling of foods.
