During the summer many residents work, yet their children are out of school. Summer camps and programs can be expensive, so Mercy Housing Southeast created its own summer camp that offers kids robust programming, including literacy classes with over 60 children participating.

The program is open to any child at the properties, free of charge, for students K-12. In the mornings they do S.T.E.M based classes — where students incorporate science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in an interdisciplinary and applied approach. Additionally, programming covers art projects, free breakfast and lunch, soccer, and other sports. Community gardens, fresh produce delivery, and computer literacy truly enrich the lives of these children, and their entire family.

Mercy Housing Southeast continues to work with partners to build programs and to strengthen staffing and counselor training. One of the very first children to ever go through the program has completed their first year at Savannah State University and has returned for the summer to volunteer as a mentor for the program.
