In honor of Housing and Homelessness Advocacy Day (HHAD), February 2nd, a sea of over 600 community advocates in red scarves gathered at the Capitol in Olympia with the united belief that everyone should have access to affordable homes. Hosted by the Washington Low Income Housing Alliance (WLIHA), HHAD was about ACTION, ADVOCACY, and ONENESS. To ensure our voices were heard by Legislators inside, chants, such as “hey, hey, ho, ho…homelessness has got to go!” were synchronized to the drum beats.

To keep the momentum going that day, Rep. Nicole Macri of the 43rd District joined the rally to share some encouraging words with the crowd, “This year depends largely on all of you…keep bringing the heat … call many times, show up in Legislators’ offices. We need it this year more than ever.” Let us heed her advice, and continue advocating for everyone to have an equal opportunity to live in a safe, healthy and affordable home.

It’s not too late to advocate! Take a minute to tell your legislators to support a $200 million investment in affordable homes. WLIHA has made it simple for you to SEND A MESSAGE to your legislators – the letter is pre-written, just sign and send!
