The holidays were a lot brighter for Mercy Housing residents in Arizona, Colorado, and Nebraska thanks to many generous donors. Mercy Housing Mountain Plains residents received toys, household items, winter wear, and holiday treats. Hundreds of items were donated across the region.
In Arizona, the Gilbert Chamber of Commerce gave gifts to 72 senior residents. The Chamber also hosted a holiday breakfast sponsored by Norwood’s Furniture of Gilbert and raffled off 50 gift cards and other prizes. Glenn Whitaker, the Resident Services Coordinator at Page Commons, expressed how much residents appreciated the gifts, “We have many seniors here that don’t have families or if they do, most don’t have much contact with them, and to see the smiles on the faces when they were picking up their presents almost makes me feel guilty that I get paid for what I do here!”
The Mesa Senior Meadows and Guadalupe Senior Village properties received 63 gifts from Home Instead, including blankets, slippers, puzzles, and other items. At Vista Alegre in Glendale, a local Walgreen’s donated $100 to buy residents gifts from their store. Residents in Avondale received holiday gift bags full of health and wellness items generously donated by Wesley Norris Insurance, Hector Cesar Insurance, Avondale Senior Center, and Care 1st Health Plan. Delta Dental provided all of our Arizona residents with dental hygiene bags.
Youth at Holly Park Apartments in Commerce City, Colorado were thrilled to receive over 200 toys, games, books, and art supplies. Parents were able to select items especially for their children. Donors included King Soopers Parker location, Simpson Housing, Green Leaf Massage Center of Lakewood, Mercy Housing employees, and individual donors. Loan Simple employees donated over 70 household items for adults at Aromor and Franconia Apartments in Denver.
In Nebraska, the Catholic Health Initiatives’ “Advent Angels” donated blankets, coats, hats, mittens, and other items to keep residents warm during the chilly winter months ahead. Oriental Trading Company delivered 137 boxes of holiday-themed gifts and trinkets, which was a huge hit with families in Omaha and Lincoln.
