Donor Spotlight: The Home Depot Foundation

Community Matters Winter 2014

Home Depot Foundation

The Home Depot Foundation and Mercy Housing have joined together to help those who have dedicated their lives to serving America and keeping us safe. Thanks to a $400,000 grant from the Home Depot Foundation, Mercy Housing Lakefront is renovating 108 units of affordable housing specifically for veterans and their families.

The Home Depot Foundation’s dedication to improving the lives of veterans is impressive. Kelly Caffarelli, president of The Home Depot Foundation, explains, “We are a proud partner with Mercy Housing Lakefront to create housing opportunities for veterans. This grant is part of The Home Depot Foundation’s five-year commitment to provide $80 million in support of veterans.”

The Home Depot Foundation’s commitment to veterans is not only shown through their financial support but also through their extensive volunteer efforts. Through Team Depot, the company’s associate-led volunteer program, thousands of Home Depot associates volunteer their time and talents to perform basic repairs and modifications to home and facilities serving veterans with critical housing needs. Since 2011, The Home Depot Foundation has invested more than $63 million to ensure every veteran has a safe place to call home.

Therefore, a partnership with Mercy Housing Lakefront was a natural fit. Mercy Housing Lakefront is also dedicated to assisting veterans through their Veterans Housing Initiative which aims to build or preserve 1,000 housing opportunities over 10 years. Through partnership and service, The Home Depot Foundation is enabling many U.S. Military families to live in hope each and every day.
