Summer was certainly a busy time for Mercy Housing Southeast, seeing three, new affordable senior communities celebrating grand openings in July and August. Mercy Housing welcomed home new residents to Etowah Terrace in Rome, Georgia; Antioch Villas and Gardens in Stone Mountain, Georgia; and the Arbors at Ellington in Pleasant Grove, Alabama.

“I have lived [at Etowah Terrace] for almost a month. I enjoy it so much,” said resident, Walter Fuqua at the property’s grand opening celebration in July. “It’s the first place that I can really say that I have felt at home in a long time. The people I have encountered living here are like an extended family now.”

All told, the Summer of 2012 saw the creation of 223 new units of affordable rental housing designed by Mercy Housing Southeast.

“To Mercy Housing, affordable housing is a means to an end,” said Charice Heywood, President of Mercy Housing Southeast. “Properties like the ones opened this summer seek to create living environments designed as vibrant, supportive communities which will allow Southeastern Seniors to age in place, with dignity.”
